Q: How do you balance giving content without sounding salesy?

A: Great question. First, let's remove some of the fear, because when you do it the way I teach you won't come off as salesy. You'll come off as helpful and encouraging, which is what you want to do.

Here's some background as to what I'm going to say. If you have a message in you that can be of help to other people, not only do you have the right to get it out there, I believe you have the obligation to get it out there to help people.

I take that notion even a step further. Not only do you have the obligation to get it out there to help people, you also have the obligation to profit from it. What? How can you have an obligation to profit from it?

Here's why. If you have an obligation to get your message out there, in order to do that you have to stay in business, right? In order to stay in business you have to pay your bills. In order to pay your bills you have to profit.

The formula

Here's the formula. You lead with content and you promote with passion.

So if you're delivering good content and you're passionate about what you're doing, that's going to come across.

In your article lead with great quality content. Then in your resource box you promote with passion. You do this by inviting the reader back to your website or blog for more great quality information.

How Can Link Building Help My Website
Lets say you have a website that focuses on nutrition. You find a great keyword, nutrition of fruits and vegetables. The only problem with this keyword is that there are a couple of websites that are already ranked pretty high for this keyword. One way to rank ahead of your competitors is by creating links to your page. Google sees these links as a voting system. When you have tons of high quality back-links pointing back to your page, Google will recognize it, and boost your page ahead of the rest for that certain keyword.

What Are One Way Back-links
One-way back-links are links that point to a website, in exchange for nothing. For example lets say you have a friend named Kyle, that loves the content your page has to offer and decides to put a link on his page that points to your page. This is a one-way back-link that benefits you, not Kyle. However, if you decide that you appreciate Kyles favor, you can put a link on your page that links back to Kyles. However, it will no longer be a one way back-link, because there are two links pointing at each other.

Where to Start Building Links
It is important that you know where to start building links. It is important to request one-ay back-links from high quality pages as opposed to back-links to from tons of low quality pages. Remember that Google rewards quality, not quantity, so it will definitely be important that you find high quality web-pages that offer one way back-links. There are tons of ways to build links to your website, but it is important that you perform a great deal of research before you start building links.

Bazek gives these steps to develop and promote your ezine.

1) Get a Smart Autoresponder--Your Internet business must have a solid foundation with a Smart Autoresponder. The smart autoresponder allows you to capture names and email addresses.

You can then set it up to email a sequence of messages. For example, one of Matt's ezine has messages set up to be mailed automatically over a period of two years. That means he can go on extended vacations and his sales messages still go out and make him money.

2) Choose a good title and description. Choose a title that captures your Unique Selling Proposition. Next write a 15-30 word description of your ezine to entice the subscriber with benefits of "what's in it for me?" This is absolutely necessary when you begin submitting to ezine directories.

3) Next contact other ezine owners and set up joint ventures. Many will be glad promote your ezine to their list if it has value to their readers. There are literally thousands of other ezine owners out there. You can offer to promote their ezine to your list also.

4) Start submitting your ezine to directories. A search on the Internet will reveal many fre^e ezine directories on the web. They'll list your title and description at no charge. You can begin getting subscribers almost immediately. If you have extra cash to help promote your ezine, try some of the paid directories-for a fee, you can be listed on these site along with many other sites that are members of their network. These can definitely speed up the growth of your ezine.

5) Use a mentor that can help you set up your ezine step-by-step, laying the foundation to put the ezine on autopilot. Often getting first hand guidance from someone who has set up a successful ezine is the boost you'll need to get started.

With those foundational steps, you can quickly start a successful ezine and quickly bring in money, all on autopilot.

When you are creating a website and you are looking to sell a product or service to a particular niche targeted audience, it is very important that you understand and know how to get the right keywords that will in turn attract the attention of your target audience. This is whats known as the research stage of the process. If you do your research incorrectly, you will unfortunately fail to attract your target audience. So it goes with out saying that knowing how to get the right keywords is a crucial step in developing a profitable business online.

Probably the most important component of search engine optimization is keyword selection. Search engines like Google and Yahoo use keywords and phrases to find web pages and rank them accordingly. The mechanism used to find and rank websites is most commonly called a search engine spider. What these spiders do is crawl the web to find new web pages and updated web pages to add them to their databases. They sort through millions of web pages by following the search engines algorithm.

Lets go back to the idea of how to get the right keywords. Lets say for example you have a product that you own or you are affiliated with a merchant who owns a product. The first thing you need to do is to find out what keywords your prospects would use in order to find the product you are trying to sell and promote? Lets take and example:

If you are selling golf clubs online. What keywords are people using to type into the search engines to find out about golf clubs? To find out what keywords people in the golf niche are using, I loaded up my keyword research tool. Here are some of the results my keyword research tool gave back to me.

1. used golf clubs
2. Callaway golf clubs
3. womens golf clubs
4. left hand golf clubs
5. Nike golf clubs

Now, we can see some actual results here. There are people using the net to find out information about golf clubs such as "nike golf clubs", "Womens golf clubs", "Callaway golf clubs" etc etc... These are the keywords that you could use to attract people to your product and then make a sale. Now remember I told you before that keyword research is the beginning of the research stage. There are many other factors which lead eventually to a sale of the product.

You can use "nike golf clubs" as a keyword phrase to target people on the net interested in buying nike golf clubs. Your webpage could be all about nike golf clubs, which are the best ones?, which are the cheapest ones? and how a visitor to your site can buy nike golf clubs. (Through your affiliate link of course, if you are an affiliate with nike :) )

I hope that this example has show you some insight as to why keywords are very important when targeting surfers to your website. There are other factors to include when selecting keywords like what the competition is like for the keyword you are interested in using. The competition means, how many other webmasters are using the same keyword, or keyword phrase on there website. A method of doing this is to type your keyword into a searh engine like google and use quotation marks around the keyword phrase. When you hit "get search", the search engine will return all the web pages that are using the exact keyword phrase.

You can view the amount of webpages you are in direct contact with by looking at the returned results on the top right hand side of the search engine results page. Please note that the lower the amount of competing pages that the search engine returns the better. There are a couple of other considerations to bare in mind when determining your competition. I will include this type of information for another day in another article! :)

Optimized Landing Pages Bring Pre-Qualified Visitors to the Site

Landing pages are a term used to describe a page or series of pages that focus on a specific keyword phrase. This keyword phrase should be something that your visitor is interested in and something they want to buy.

Some great sources of keyword phrases for your landing pages are:

  • Google Analytics. If you have installed Google's free analytics tool this is a great source of information about what visitors to your site are looking for. Keywords and keyword phrases are reported.
  • Google Webmaster Tools. This tool has a section that reports how your site ranks on keywords and keyword phrases as well as how many visitors clicked on each of these phrases.
  • Google AdWords. If you are an AdWords customer you really need to pay attention to the reports to see which keyword phrases are attracting visitors. These keyword phrases need to become landing pages so you can use AdWords to attract buyers not naturally coming to your site.
  • Frequently asked questions. If your visitors are asking questions maybe the best place to answer them is through an landing page. Create the FAQ and be sure to link it to the landing page. This way you cover all your bases.
  • Your niche market keyword phrases. You know your niche market. Use this knowledge to come up with the keyword phrases important to your own niche vertical market.
  • Free shipping. Internet buyers love free shipping. More and more of them are searching for the product name and then putting free shipping at the end of the search. Is your site optimized to attract this pre-qualified visitor?

Creating an Optimized Landing Page

Your optimized landing page should have the following items:

  • Page title with the keyword phrase as the first thing in the title. You should also have variations of the keyword phrase in the page title.
  • The first section heading should have the keyword phrase at the beginning. Be sure to use h1 tags in your section heading.
  • Use the keyword phrase throughout the page content. Make it readable to humans and do not repeat the keyword phrase right after each other. Not sure how to do this? Keep reading.
  • Use bold text to emphasize the keyword phrase.
  • Use hyperlinks with the keyword phrase in it to move visitors to other parts of your website.
  • If possible, use the keyword phrase in the footer of the page. Many times I use the text, "Your Internet source for" and then the keyword phrase for that page. Come up with your own text that best fits your site.

Keep in mind that the purpose of this landing page is to attract pre-qualified visitors to your site. Once there, this page should be filled with useful information about the keyword phrase. If not, you are going to anger the visitor. They will leave and probably not come back.

Give them what they are looking for and you will have won the first part of the battle. Be sure that your landing page has plenty of hyperlinks to other parts of your site, specifically to the types of products these pre-qualified visitors are looking for. Make their shopping easier and you will win them over.

Optimizing Page Content

How much is enough? How many times should I use the keyword phrase?

I mentioned earlier some things you should do to create your landing page. One of these things was to use the keyword phrases in the content, but not to overdue it or repeat it.

When I created this article I optimized it for "keyword phrase". I did this to make a point about keyword page saturation. You were reading an article about creating and optimizing a landing page. You were also proving the point of using the keyword phrase in your page content to make it readable.

The following keyword phrases were used in this article.

Optimized landing page. Mentioned 5 times, once in the title. .05% Saturation Keyword phrase. Mentioned 25 times. Is first in the title. 2.6% Saturation

A saturation level of .05% is not nearly enough. The search engines will not see your page as important enough for the keyword phrase.

However, a saturation of 2% - 3% is probably going to raise a search engine eyebrow. Your page is going to be seen as more important and obtain a higher ranking, have increased impressions on the search engines and definitely more pre-qualified visitors to your site.
